Compression tights or regular tights: what does what?
Updated 24 September 2026
Short answer: Compression leggings are sewn in a dense fabric with a high proportion of elastane that gives firm pressure against the body. They fit firmly, shape and reduce muscle vibration when you move. Softer leggings follow the body without holding back. Many choose compression for running, intervals and intense training, and a softer pair for yoga and calmer days. With us you get both feels, and the high shaped waist matters as much as the fabric.
Compression or soft, the question is about how you want your leggings to feel. Firm and shaping, or soft like a second skin. Both can fit equally well. What differs is what the garment does while you move.
What is the difference between compression leggings and regular leggings?
| Compression leggings | Softer leggings | |
|---|---|---|
| Feel | Firm pressure that shapes and holds | Soft and supple |
| Fabric | Dense, with a high proportion of elastane | Unusually soft against the skin |
| Many choose them for | Running, intervals and intense training | Yoga, walks and calmer days |

What does compression do in leggings?
A densely knitted fabric with a high proportion of elastane gives firm pressure against the body. Studies show that compression reduces how much the muscles in the thighs and calves vibrate when you run, and that it sharpens your sense of joint position to some extent. For you, that means leggings that fit firmly and shape, session after session.
With us, the compression is just right: it supports without pressing. Edge Stripe Leggings are sewn in 78 percent recycled ECO Circle polyester and 22 percent elastane, with a high shaped waist that holds in the waist and stomach. At the back they are cut in a heart shape, and in the waistband sits a hidden pocket. They are squat proof and have four-way stretch.
“I really like these leggings, they stay in place and shape both legs and bum with a firm hold.” Anna, on Edge Stripe Leggings

Which leggings suit intense training?
A firm fabric that stays in place takes away the small adjustments between sets, and the high waist keeps everything in place in deep movements. Slimline Sculpting Leggings have seams that lift and shape the seat and thighs, in 73 percent recycled ECO Circle polyester and 27 percent elastane. Goldline Black Sculpting Leggings have the same fabric and a sculpting cut you feel as soon as you put them on. Both are squat proof. More styles are under sculpting leggings.
“As a woman with a small, square body I was happy to be able to shape my body and get more curves thanks to a brilliant design.” Lovisa, on Goldline Black Sculpting Leggings

Which leggings suit yoga and calmer days?
Here, soft wins. Slimline FlexFlow Leggings Black/White are unusually soft against the skin and fit like a second skin through the whole session. The fabric is 78 percent recycled ECO Circle polyester and 22 percent elastane, with a discreet white piping along the leg and in a heart shape on the seat. The same style comes in black with gold.
“I always get compliments when I wear these at the gym.” Charlotte, on Slimline FlexFlow Leggings Black/White
Does the waist matter?
Yes, more than many think. A high, wide waist does a large part of the work and is often the reason one pair feels firmer than another. In our full-length leggings we use no elastic band. The waist is shaped in double fabric that supports the stomach and holds you in, without chafing or pinching. When you sit down, it never feels like it takes your breath away. More in high waist or mid-rise and what sculpting leggings are.
Do I need both kinds?
If you train several times a week, you will get good use out of both. A firm pair for the intense sessions, a soft pair for yoga, walks and days at home. The whole range is under all women’s activewear.
The quality is the same. We choose equally fine fabrics for both, soft against the skin and shape-retaining wash after wash.
Frequently asked questions
What do compression leggings do?
They give firm pressure against the body that shapes and holds. Studies show that compression reduces muscle vibration when you run.
Should compression leggings feel tight?
They should fit close and firm, but never dig in. If the waistband digs in or the fabric turns see-through, the size is too small.
Can I wear compression leggings all day?
Yes, if the size is right. Our full-length leggings have a shaped waist in double fabric instead of an elastic band, and it does not pinch when you sit.
Do compression leggings go see-through?
A dense fabric should handle a deep squat. Edge Stripe Leggings, Goldline Black Sculpting Leggings and Slimline Sculpting Leggings are squat proof.
How do I wash compression leggings?
At 30 degrees inside out, on a gentle programme. Line dry and do not use fabric softener. Heat and the tumble dryer weaken the elastane that helps the leggings keep their shape.
Anything but ordinary.
