Women's sweatshirts and jumpers: soft, never shapeless

The sweatshirt you reach for most is rarely the most eye-catching one. It is the one that feels right against the skin, keeps its shape and works at home as well as out.

What makes a good women's sweatshirt?

Three things. The fabric should be soft but still have structure. The shoulder line and cuffs should sit cleanly. And the details should lift the piece without taking over.

A jumper that loses its shape after a few washes gets left in the drawer. One that holds up is the one you keep reaching for.

Half zip sweatshirt with a high collar

The Edge Cozy Half Zip Sweater is brushed on the inside and unusually soft against the skin. The outside has a slightly crisp texture that holds its shape. The high collar keeps you warm, and the gold half zip together with our W gives it its character.

It is made from 95 per cent cotton and 5 per cent spandex. Stretchy enough to move in, clean enough to wear with jeans and a coat.

The Edge Gold Button Sweater feels more dressed than a classic sweatshirt. The modal blend gives the fabric an almost silky softness, a fine weight and a beautiful drape. Four gold buttons sit on the shoulder. At the wrists, gathered fabric hides a wide elastic band instead of a standard cuff.

The Edge Casual Zip Sweater is made from the same micro-brushed fabric as our bestselling sweatpants. The surface is matte and keeps its shape. Gold-coloured zips on both shoulders give a clean shoulder line, the cuffs are slim and the body is relaxed.

Half zip for training

For your workout there is the Edge Half Zip Sweatshirt. The fabric is smooth and cool against the skin, moisture-wicking and quick-drying, in recycled ECO Circle polyester. The fit is deliberately loose. Tie a knot at the front for a shorter shape, or wear it straight.

How to keep your sweatshirt in shape

Turn it inside out and wash it in a laundry bag. Edge Cozy Half Zip, Edge Casual Zip and Edge Half Zip are washed at a maximum of 40 degrees and hung to dry. The Gold Button sweater is washed at 30 degrees on a gentle programme and kept away from the tumble dryer.
