Women's hoodie: what decides whether you keep it on
A women's hoodie is rarely bought for a single session. It goes on when the training is over and stays on the way home, on the sofa, in the shop the next day. That asks something different of a garment than an hour of work does. The weight of the fabric, the inside against your skin and the way the details are sewn decide whether it stays in your wardrobe or only in the drawer.
What makes a hoodie get worn often?
The thickness and the inside. Deluxe Hoodie White is sewn in a thick, enveloping material with a brushed inside that keeps the warmth close to the body. The hood is lined and has a drawcord. The front pocket is large. The chest embroidery in gold and deep red is hard-wearing and keeps its intensity wash after wash, and embroidered details on the hood do the rest. It is a construction you notice after twenty washes, when the piece still looks the way it did.
White or red?
Colour is the only thing that separates them. The white one comes together with Deluxe Joggers White into one whole, with the same gold-coloured details and Deluxe embroidery at the leg openings. The joggers run small, so take one size up there. Deluxe Hoodie Red has the same fabric, the same hood, the same front pocket, in a colour that shows. The red tone keeps its depth over time. It is true to size and shrinks slightly in the wash, which is worth knowing before the first one.
Hoodie or half zip?
The hood warms and gives you somewhere to withdraw. A zip does something else: it regulates. Up when you stand still, down when you get warm. Edge Cozy Half Zip Sweater has a brushed inside, a high collar and a gold-coloured half zip, sewn in 95 per cent cotton and 5 per cent spandex. The outside has a lightly crisp structure that holds its shape. Edge Casual Zip Sweater is micro-brushed with a matte surface, zips at both shoulders and narrow cuffs, airy through the body without feeling large. We have written more about that choice in zip training top.
Is there something more dressed up?
Edge Gold Button Sweater sits closer to a sweater you wear with suit trousers than with tights. The modal blend gives the fabric a smooth, yielding feel, a fine weight and a beautiful drape. Four gold buttons sit on the shoulder. The cuffs have wide elastic inside and gathered fabric outside instead of a plain rib. The fabric is delicate and is allowed to be: 30 degrees, delicate or wool, inside out, never a tumble dryer.
How do you wash it?
The Edge sweaters are washed inside out, in a laundry bag, at no more than 40 degrees, and hung to dry. The Deluxe Hoodie is hung to dry too. The red one shrinks slightly in the wash, and the embroidery lasts longer when it escapes the dryer. A thick hoodie takes longer on the hanger than in the drum, and that is the whole point: the fabric keeps its drape and the hood its shape. The rest is in the garment care guide.
Which size should you choose?
Deluxe Hoodie Red is true to size, and the white one is designed the same way. The joggers run small, so take one size up there. Edge Cozy Half Zip comes in XS to XL, Edge Casual Zip in XS to L. Both have enough stretch to move in, so your usual size gives a clean line and one size up gives more air.
What do you wear it with?
Joggers from the same series give the simplest whole and ask for no thought in the morning. With tights the hoodie turns everyday. With straight trousers it turns sharper than you expect, especially in white. More examples of how the pieces work outside the gym are in activewear as everyday wear.
Where do you find them?
The hoodies and the soft sweaters sit under Studio & Everyday. The Edge pieces are gathered in Edge, and the tops in Tops. To see the full range, there is all activewear.
Anything but ordinary.
