Training tights that stay put: waistband, fabric and size
Training tights that stay put have three things in common: a waistband with structure, a fabric that returns to shape, and a size that sits close to the body. When those three line up, you stop thinking about the garment and notice only the movement.
Why do tights slide down?
Two things are almost always behind it. The waistband rolls down because it sits too low, runs too narrow or has no structure. The knees bag because the fabric has lost its recovery and does not return to shape after you bend your legs. The wrong size makes both worse. A thin, overstretched fabric makes it worse still.
It is rarely something you are doing wrong. A garment that slides down has usually been given too little structure at the waist, fabric that is too thin, or too much time in the tumble dryer.

What makes a waistband stay in place?
Height and width. A high, shaped waistband spreads the pressure across a larger area of the torso and so has less reason to roll. It should hold without cutting in. Our training tights with a high waist are created around exactly that.
On Slimline Sculpting Training Tights the waistband is high and shaped, holds the stomach in place and does not slide down. The seams are constructed to lift and shape the seat and thighs. The fabric is recycled ECO Circle polyester with measured compression that supports without pressing, and the tights are squat proof.
How do you recognise a fabric with recovery?
Pull it. A fabric with good recovery goes back at once and leaves no slack surface behind. Drop into a squat, stand up, look at the knee. It should be smooth again once you are upright. A fabric that stays stretched will bag after twenty minutes.
Density matters. A denser fabric with four-way stretch holds its shape longer than a thin one that gives in every direction. The full selection with sculpting construction sits together under sculpting training tights.
Which size should you choose?
The one that sits close over waist, seat and thighs. Tights that are too large almost always slide, because there is no grip to work against. At the same time the fabric should not be stretched to its limit. Then it loses both shape and density. If you are between two sizes: take the smaller when the fabric is soft and pliable, the larger when it is firm and compressive.
Does the pocket matter?
More than you would think. A phone in a pocket that sits wrong pulls the whole waistband down on one side. On Iconic Black Tights With Pocket the pocket sits on the left leg and takes a large phone without the tights sliding down. The waistband is high and shaped, and the tights are squat proof through the whole session.

Can washing make a difference?
It decides how long the tights keep their grip. Wash cool, turn the garment inside out and let it air dry. High heat and the tumble dryer break down the elastane, and once the elasticity is gone no waistband can make up for it. More on the routine in how to wash training tights.
Common questions
Why do my training tights bag at the knees?
The fabric has lost its recovery and does not return to shape after you bend your legs. A denser fabric with four-way stretch solves it. We go through the causes in more detail in why do my training tights slide down.
How do I stop the waistband rolling?
Choose a high, shaped waistband and a size that sits close. Then the waistband stays steady against the torso through the whole session.
Does buying a size smaller help?
Rarely. A size too small presses the fabric thinner and more often gives more rolling, not less.
Do black tights hold their shape better?
Colour makes no difference. Density, waistband and size do all the work.
How long should a pair last?
As long as the fabric keeps its recovery. A cool wash and air drying extend that time noticeably.
A pair of tights that stays put is noticed mostly by the fact that you stop noticing them. They sit, and you can think about something else.
Anything but ordinary.
