How to style activewear: a look that lasts all day

A training set should not have to stay in the bag once the session ends. How to style activewear so it lasts all day: the answer sits in the fit, in the layers and in letting one piece at a time be the sporty one. Tights, jacket and soft layers become part of the wardrobe rather than an exception to it.

Where do you start?

With the silhouette. Tights or trousers that sit firmly give the leg a clean line. A high waist holds the whole together, especially with a shorter jacket or a top with a considered length.

The construction does the work. In our sculpting training tights the seams are placed to lift, the side panels are shaped and the waistband is wide. Slimline Capri Sculpting Leggings Dark Grey shows what that looks like in practice: heart-shaped lines with red piping, a wide elastic waistband that holds the tights in place, capri length ending mid-calf. The edition is limited and will not be restocked.

Let the fit set the proportions. A close base works well under a slightly looser outer layer. With a roomier sweatshirt, smooth tights keep the look collected. A sculpting jacket instead gives shape to softer trousers.

How do you put the layers together?

One layer at a time, each with a job. The innermost sits close to the body and follows the movement. Over it goes a jacket with a zip, a thin overshirt or a sweatshirt, depending on activity and temperature. Keep the colours few. Then the meeting between materials is what shows, not the palette.

A training jacket with marked seams has two roles in one piece. Open over a matching set, the expression is relaxed. Closed, with tights in the same tone, it turns sharper. Slimline Training Jacket is sewn close from shoulder to hip, with sculpting black side panels, mirror gold metallic zippers and a hidden inner pocket with a flap. It is made in recycled polyester.

For travel, a set in a supple fabric works as the base. Add a jacket with a clean collar, a bag with a simple shape and low-profile sneakers. It is a combination that is comfortable on the plane without looking like a compromise.

Matching sets give direction

A set is more than practical. It creates a vertical line that makes the whole look more considered, even with few pieces. Black, dark brown, grey, navy and muted neutrals give a Scandinavian base that holds season after season. Our training sets are made for exactly that shift.

The set does not have to be identical to feel coherent. Tights and jacket in neighbouring shades give depth, and a top in the same colour family ties it together. The undertones decide. A cool grey and a warm beige are hard to bring together, while black, charcoal and cool taupe meet on their own. If you want to read more about how the pieces connect, there is our guide to matching training sets.

Keep the accessories restrained. A simple cap, a thin wool coat or a structured tote is enough. More detail takes the focus from the clean silhouette.

What decides the fabric?

Where the day takes you. For the gym, intervals and strength, support, recovery in the fabric and a waistband that stays put are what count. For walks, errands and travel, the feel against the skin and the coverage weigh heavier.

A matte, technical fabric reads more urban than a shiny one and is easier to combine with everyday pieces. Density and elasticity decide the use: thinner tights suit low-intensity training, a steadier fabric holds its shape over many hours.

This is where a small training wardrobe with clear functions makes a difference. You do not need several versions of the same piece. A pair of black sculpting tights, a matching set in a neutral tone, a jacket with shape and a pair of well-cut trousers covers most of it.

From session to day

The transition works when you are not trying to hide that the pieces come from training. Let them be what they are, and style them with intent. Swap the sports bra for a smooth top with a higher neckline, put on a short jacket and choose clean sneakers. The freedom of movement stays, the expression turns urban.

After a morning session, black tights work with a longer shirt in crisp cotton and a jacket with a marked shoulder. It is not right for a strict dress code. It works for a meeting over coffee, a creative workplace and a day with many moves.

At the weekend it is simpler. Match tights with a knit with a shorter front hem, or wear the set under a straight coat. When the outer layer has structure and length, the close base gets a frame. For warmer days: a fitted top, a thin jacket with a zip and an open shirt over the shoulders.

Three choices that make a difference

Colour, length and shoes. A darker bottom with a top or jacket in the same or a slightly lighter tone gives a long, continuous line. If the tights have detailed panels, let the rest stay cleaner so the construction shows without competition.

The shoes decide the feel. Training shoes with clear cushioning belong in the session. With a dressier combination they can read too technical. A low, clean sneaker takes the tights on to lunch, a journey or a quiet day at home.

Last, the outer layer. A short, sculpting jacket draws out the waist and sits well over a high waist. A longer coat or overshirt gives contrast to the close base. Both work. The choice depends on whether you want to mark the shape or give the look a softer fall.

The most common mistake

Adding too many sporty pieces at once. Patterned tights, large logos, technical shoes, a cap and a roomy gym bag pull the whole towards the changing room.

Choose one clear sporty component and keep the rest restrained. With a sculpting jacket, smooth tights, simple shoes and discreet jewellery are enough. With a set, a straight coat or a knit gives the contrast that makes it usable. More training jackets are gathered in the collection.

Think about condition too. Pieces meant to work in more settings need gentle washing and their elasticity intact. Follow the care instructions, avoid unnecessary heat and let the pieces rest between wears. How long you wear a piece matters as much as what it is made of.

When fit, colour and layers are right, you do not need to steer the rest. Choose pieces that follow you through movement, errands, travel and recovery, and let the construction make the expression clear.
