Leggings with pockets: where should the phone sit?

The phone is the first thing you bring and the last thing you want to hold. A pocket on your leggings solves that, if it sits right. If it sits wrong it pulls the waistband down, rubs against the thigh or drops the phone in the first lunge. This is the difference between the three pockets we sew, and how to choose.

Where should the pocket sit on leggings?

There are three good places. On the thigh, on both thighs, or hidden in the waistband. Which is right depends on what you carry.

The thigh pocket is the classic. It holds a large phone and sits at hand height when your arm hangs, so you reach it without stopping. Iconic Black, Iconic Silver and Iconic Gold have it on the left leg, with a small key loop at the front of the waistband.

Pockets on both legs are for you who carry more than one thing. Phone on one side, keys and cards on the other. Or two tennis balls. Iconic Stripe and Edge Mesh have roomy pockets on both sides, and Edge Mesh adds mesh panels along the legs for ventilation.

The hidden waistband pocket does not show at all. It holds a card and a key, not a phone, and suits you who want a completely clean line. Edge Stripe in black and Edge Stripe Navy have it at the back of the waistband.

Do the leggings slide down when the pocket is full?

That is the usual objection, and it is a fair one. A 200 gram phone bouncing against the thigh pulls at the fabric with every step. Two things decide whether the waistband holds.

The first is where the pocket sits. Too far down the leg and the lever gets long, and the waistband takes all the pull. Look for a pocket that sits high on the thigh, close to the hip, where movement is smallest.

The second is the waist. A high sculpted waist spreads the pull across the whole torso instead of over a narrow elastic. All our leggings with pockets have it, and they stay in place. The pocket is a detail on top of leggings that already fit, not the reason they fit.

Which pocket for which workout?

Running and walking: thigh pocket, ideally on both legs so the weight is even. Gym and strength: one thigh pocket is enough, the phone lies still between sets. Tennis and padel: pockets on both legs, one ball in each. Yoga and pilates: hidden waistband pocket, nothing pressing when you lie on the mat.

Which size should you choose?

Your usual. The pocket changes nothing in the fit, it is sewn in the same fabric and stretches with it. Sizes from XS to XXL depending on the model. Between two sizes, choose the smaller. The fabric gives, the waistband should not have to.

Does the fabric differ between models?

Yes, and it is worth knowing. Iconic Stripe, Edge Mesh and Edge Stripe in black are made in ECO Circle, a polyester that is mostly recycled. Iconic Black, Silver and Gold and Edge Stripe Navy are made in a soft performance fabric of polyester and elastane. All have a high sculpted waist and a heart-shaped cut at the back. The difference shows in the pattern, not in how they fit.

All models are gathered under leggings with pockets. See also black leggings and high waisted leggings.
